How To Handle Parties As A Vegan
One of the questions I am asked frequently by new and aspiring vegans is how to handle going to parties as a new vegan. For many people there is a concern about being tempted to going off track or being the weirdo vegan not eating what everyone else is eating (not that I think this would make one a weirdo per se).  That being said, I think this is a common challenge that new and veteran vegans...

Sometimes Chili Just Won't Cut It and COOKBOOK...
Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE vegan chili, and I probably make it at least once per week (sometimes twice) as it’s healthy, easy, and crazy cheap.  (My current favorite recipe is Happy Herbivore Abroad’s Quick Chili Mole).  That being said, one is not always in the mood for chili and sometimes you just want somethin’ a little fancier, especially when you are having company...

What to have for breakfast? Cocomojoe Joebar...
I want to start out by saying that my heart, thoughts and prayers go out to the victims, families and the community of Newtown, CT after yesterday’s tragic events.  Secondly, if you would like to do something to help you can go to http://www.crowdrise.com/SHSRelief to donate.   On a brighter note, I wanted to share with you all my latest article, review and giveaway for a box of Cocomojoe...

Converting a Husband to Veganism
I’ve recently began writing for a fabulous vegan lifestyle website, Chicvegan.com.  For my first article, I wrote about a topic that I myself have faced, and that is converting my husband to a plant-based vegan diet.  I know what you are thinking, “You can’t make someone eat this way!”  ”That’s manipulative!” “How did you do it??!”  Well here...

Happy Herbivore Abroad Blog Tour and Giveaway!!
One of the things you should know about me is that I get a little starstruck sometimes.  Interestingly, it’s not by movie stars, celebrities, or anyone super famous.  In fact, when I was growing up in NYC, the cool thing to do was pretend you didn’t notice them.  The people that get me excited are my vegan and/or plant-based super star heroes.  One of them, Lindsey Nixon, otherwise...

"Well, what do you eat then?"
For those of you who read my blog regularly, you know that I refer to the protein question (i.e., “where do you get your protein?!”) as the “million dollar question”.  Well, if that is the million dollar question, then the $250,000 question has to be, “Well, what do you eat then?”  Typically, I find that this question gets asked as soon as someone finds out that...

Veganspiration
One of the fabulous things about being a blogger is the honor of reading brand new plant-based cookbooks, often before the general public.  This is one of the highlights for me as there are few things that get me as excited as a new low-fat cashew creamed kale recipe or a veggie burger recipe that does not require oil or egg replacer.  I wish I was one of those people that “felt” like...

Getting your vegan travel on
Let me start off by saying that this way of eating has become second nature for me.  However, that does not mean that there aren’t times when I struggle a little to find apetizing vegan options for myself.  Recently I was in Puebla, Mexico for a work conference.  While I was fortunate to stay at the one of the nicest hotels in the whole city, I still found that there were times when I was...

The Ultimate Girly Vegan
One of the things I like most about the mainstreaming of Veganism, is all of the amazing vegan role models.  My first exposure to Veganism came in 2009 with the publication of Alicia Silverstone’s The Kind Diet.  I remember picking up this book at Barnes and Nobles thinking that I love Clueless, I love diet books, and I was curious what the beautiful Alicia Silverstone had to say about both...

Just 'cause I'm vegan, doesn't mean I'm a hippie
Have any of you seen the movie Wanderlust that came out with Jennifer Aniston and her new boyfriend Justin Theroux?  Now, let me start off by saying I loved this movie, and I love Jennifer.  However, this movie basicly portrayed vegans as communal living, group sex having, barely dressed hippies who will protest at any given chance.  Obviously most people know this is an exageration, however, I...

Ready, Set- Go!
As many of you already know, we had our first Ready Set Green support group meeting a weeks ago at Daily Juice.   I was so excited to see how many people came to the meeting as well as the many different reasons people were there.  1st off, for those of you who think this is a girly issue, let me tell you that 2/3 of the group members who came were men!  We also had a range of opinions and...

The Great Debate: Veganism vs. Plant-based Eating
Around here, I drop the V bomb regularly, however, the more people I talk to, the more I realize how the word “vegan” needs a new marketing campaign.  To do some research, I asked my recently vegan or as he prefers ”Plant- based” husband what he thinks of when he hears the word “vegan”.  And I quote, “some skinny weirdo guy with piercings who has lots of...

The book I wish I had two years ago
As someone who has been eating a plant-based/ vegan lifestyle for almost 2 years, I sometimes forget what it was like when I was first starting out.  The first “vegan” books that I read, Skinny Bitch and The Kind Diet, were books that I had initially picked up in the hopes of learning a new way to lose weight.  I remember thinking “hmm, it would be great to lose weight, but I...

Is it cheaper being vegan?
So often as a vegan, I hear people tell me that being vegan “is too expensive”.  While I initially believed this myself, I realized that it is in fact a myth.  When reporters compared apples to apples (actually carrots to McDonald’s in this case,) they found that the vegan, plant-based meals were much cheaper.  Here is a Forbes article on the topic…  ...

Austin's Best Kept Secret
Having lived in Austin, TX now for 2.5 years, I thought I had discovered most of what the vegan community had to offer.  Apparently I was completely wrong!  Through a little festival we call South By South West, I was invited to the Plant Strong Potluck at Rip Esselstyn’s house.  Now I should prefice this by saying that I am a huge fan of his and of his book, The Engine 2 Diet.  To say that...
