Having lived in Austin, TX now for 2.5 years, I thought I had discovered most of what the vegan community had to offer. Apparently I was completely wrong! Through a little festival we call South By South West, I was invited to the Plant Strong Potluck at Rip Esselstyn’s house. Now I should prefice this by saying that I am a huge fan of his and of his book, The Engine 2 Diet. To say that I was excited is an understatement. The most accurate analogy would be like a thirteen year old girl going to a party at Justin Bieber’s house. I know, I know, I’m a bit of a plant-strong groupie. That being said, this party was unreal. So many amazing plant-based “celebrities” were there like Happy Herbivore, Lindsey Nixon, vegan body-builder, Robert Cheeke, and author of Meat is For Pussies, John Joseph among others.
One of the things that I absolutely adore about this community is how kind, accessable and fun everyone is. I mean, coming from New York City, I cannot imagine a big author in NY inviting 200 strangers over for a potluck. That being said, the food was great, the company was even better. Here I am with Rip, grinning ear to ear.
Don’t you love that he is wearing a “Hello my name is Rip” name tag?
