As many of you already know, we had our first Ready Set Green support group meeting a weeks ago at Daily Juice.

I was so excited to see how many people came to the meeting as well as the many different reasons people were there. 1st off, for those of you who think this is a girly issue, let me tell you that 2/3 of the group members who came were men! We also had a range of opinions and motivations for attending the group. Including: weight-loss/ weight management (always my favorite), fitness, conflicts in families surrounding food choices, general information gathering and more.
The speaker at the first group was the multi-talented (and friend of mine) Abigail Mahnke. For those of you who missed it, here is Abigail’s bio: Abigail has been eating a healthy plant-based diet for 4 years, since reading Eat to Live by Dr. Joel Fuhrman. She is on the Board of Advisors of The Nutritional Research Project, a non-profit organization dedicated to clinical research into the effects of a high-nutrient-dense, whole foods, plant-based diet and its effects on the prevention and reversal of disease. Abigail attends seminars around the country on healthy plant-based eating, and has helped a number of people make the transition to this way of eating. Abigail is a graduate of Columbia University and the owner of the staffing firm, The Outsource Resource.
Abigail presented on the topics of What is Health? As well as how to eat a healthy, plant-based diet easily and affordably. Abigail presented so much useful information, that I think many of the topics could be broken out into their own group.
We also discussed future group topics such as:
-Cooking discussion (easily, quickly, cheaply etc)
-Cooking demo
-How to eat plant-based while traveling/ attending parties/ dinners etc.
-How to eat plant-based with omnivores
-How to remain motivated in the face of temptation
-Making positive changes
-Whole Foods and other health food store tours (to better understand how to grocery shop for this lifestyle)
To keep up the positive momentum, I have just posted the next Ready Set Green meeting information on Meetup and you can find us here:

Lastly, I want to send a big shout out and thank you to the staff at Daily Juice who did a fantastic job of hosting our large group, getting our food out and letting us go over time in our reserved room. Despite the power outage in Hyde Park that day, we were kept comfortable and were able to continue this important group. The drinks and food we had were delicious as always, and I highly recommend it for those of you who haven’t been there.

Happy Memorial Day weekend everybody!!
